About the Author (and Translator)
Emily Brontë (1818-1848) published this, her only novel, under the pseudonym Ellis Bell. She died very young, unaware that she had written one of the masterpieces of English literature, breaking with the schemes of Victorian romanticism.
Carmen Martín Gaite (Translator) was one of the most important figures in Hispanic literature (Nadal Prize, Prince of Asturias Award). Her translation of this work is considered canonical for its fidelity to the spirit and strength of the original text.
