Of Love and Other Demons

Of Love and Other Demons

Our Review

A book that is undoubtedly worth having. In our opinion, it is one of our Gabo favorites. It has nothing to do with the city of Macondo, which allows us to enjoy a different and uncomplicated story.

The origin of this book is a legend that Gabriel's grandmother used to tell him about a girl with very long hair who died of rabies. Gabo took that legend and brought it to paper in this work where criticism, love, traditions, and horror are mixed. The girl is locked up in a convent because she is believed to be possessed.

It's a novel that hooks you from the beginning; it's also very short and you can read it in one or two afternoons. A story that you always want to reread.

Synopsis

Sierva María de Todos los Ángeles is the daughter of a marquis and is notable for her very long hair. Her life changes when a rabid dog bites her in a market. The animal attacks four other people who end up dying. Sierva María, however, survives, but soon begins to show strange behavior. People wonder: is it rabies or is she possessed?
