Our Review

As soon as we started reading El chico de las bobinas, we realized we were in the presence of a great author. Pere Cervantes has that special ability to draw you into the story from the very first page. What struck us most was the setting, which perfectly reflects the oppressive atmosphere of Francoist Barcelona. The novel balances a solid historical narrative with a suspense that keeps you glued to the book.

If you are looking for a well-constructed historical thriller full of nuances, this is a sure bet. The story of Nil, a child who traverses a Barcelona scarred by the post-war period, combines intrigue, tenderness, and historical memory, all wrapped in a captivating cinematic atmosphere. It is also a tribute to cinema, to stolen childhoods, and to the silent resistance of those who try to survive without losing their humanity.

Without a doubt, a novel we recommend if you like intense stories that combine emotion, history, and mystery.

Synopsis

The story follows Nil Roig, a 13-year-old boy who earns a living delivering film reels in Barcelona in 1945. Everything changes when he finds a corpse in the doorway of his home. Before dying, the stranger hands him a mysterious collectible card of an actor from that era. Was it a chance encounter or is there something more behind it? In addition to the mystery, the novel is also an intimate portrait of the silent struggle of so many women who, amidst pain and scarcity, bravely raised their families.
