Man's Search for Meaning

Man's Search for Meaning

Our review

Don't let its size fool you: it is short but very intense. The author recounts his experience, but it is clear that he glosses over the macabre details. He does something much more innovative: he describes the psychological experience of the prisoner and how suffering affects their mind.

Viktor Frankl was a psychiatrist who personally experienced the horror of being a prisoner in Auschwitz. This book recounts his experience, but also analyzes the psychology of the prisoner and details what logotherapy, the psychotherapeutic method he created, is and how it is applied. It is a realistic and insightful essay that delves into the minds of those who lived through the worst massacre of the 20th century.

We strongly recommend reading it and keeping it as a reference. It is not a self-help book, although it can be helpful, nor is it an autobiography. It is soul and knowledge.

Synopsis

Viktor Frankl, a prisoner in Nazi camps in 1944, did not abandon his work as a psychiatrist. He observed the behavior of those who survived there and, years later, after an agonizing struggle for survival, wrote this book that has traveled the entire world, analyzing how to find purpose even in the most extreme circumstances.

About the Author

Viktor Frankl (Vienna, 1905-1997) was a neurologist and psychiatrist of Jewish origin. In 1942, his life was cut short when he and his wife were deported to a concentration camp. He was in four different camps, including Auschwitz, until his liberation in 1945. He survived, but the rest of his family did not. In solitude, he worked and wrote. This led to the publication of the work that would make him known throughout the world: "Man's Search for Meaning."
