The Country of the Blind and Other Stories

The Country of the Blind and Other Stories

Our review

Despite being a short story, it is very impressive. You can read it in just one afternoon, though it will leave you pondering for longer. It's best not to form an idea of what you'll encounter and let it surprise you.

"In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." This is the initial premise of this short tale. The protagonist cannot imagine what will happen in a country where all its inhabitants are blind. A book that, without a doubt, will make you reconsider certain aspects of life.

This 70th-anniversary edition includes four other stories: The Door in the Wall, The Crystal Egg, The Empire of the Ants, and A Dream of Armageddon. If you like H. G. Wells, you cannot miss it.

Synopsis

A mountaineer falls down a slope and arrives at a small, unknown village. In this place, all its inhabitants are blind due to a mysterious illness. He feels he has an advantage over them, though he will discover that the proverb is just that: a proverb.

About the Author

H.G. Wells (London, 1866-1946) was a very prolific writer, known mainly for his science fiction novels, such as The Invisible Man or The War of the Worlds. Some consider him the father of this genre. His works never lack social, ethical, and political reflection, and his main goal was to help create a more just and solidary world.
