The Wind in the Willows (Illustrated) (Ages 8+)

Our review

"The Wind in the Willows" is one of those examples of classic children's literature that few people know but that you should have on your shelf. Additionally, illustrated by artist Thibault Prugne, who has managed to capture all the magic, peace, and adventure of Kenneth Grahame's original text. You only have to look at the cover, with that little boat gliding among the water lilies, to know that we are looking at a special book.

Published with exquisite taste by Edelvives, it is a read that has the ability to transport you to the riverbanks, to country picnics, and to the warmth of true friendship.

It works wonderfully as a bedtime story for the little ones, but, let's be honest: adults have to make an effort to introduce children to this type of more intimate and demanding literature.

Synopsis

The arrival of spring awakens Mole from his winter slumber and pushes him to leave his dark burrow. Upon reaching the riverbank, he meets Water Rat, who will introduce him to a new world full of light, boat rides, and nature. They will be joined by the sensible Badger and the eccentric and vain Toad, heir to Toad Hall and possessor of a dangerous obsession with motorcars.

Together they will experience countless adventures, from getting lost in the terrifying Wild Wood to trying to save Toad from his own mishaps. An unforgettable story about loyalty, kindness, respect for nature, and the invaluable worth of friendship.

About the authors

Kenneth Grahame (1859-1932) was a Scottish writer who worked at the Bank of England. He wrote The Wind in the Willows (1908) based on the stories he made up for his son Alastair before bedtime. What began as a family story eventually became one of the masterpieces of British children's and young adult literature.

Thibault Prugne (1988) is a talented French illustrator, author, and musician. His style stands out for the masterful use of light, color, and immersive atmospheres that give the characters tremendous expressiveness. In addition to his graphic work, he is the founder of his own publishing house in France.
