About the author
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (Frankfurt, 1749 - Weimar, 1832) is the central figure of German literature and one of the great geniuses of universal literature. He was a true polymath: poet, playwright, novelist, scientist, and statesman. His work ranges from the Romanticism of Sturm und Drang to the Weimar Classicism. His novel The Sorrows of Young Werther made him a celebrity throughout Europe, but his magnum opus, on which he worked for over 60 years, is undoubtedly Faust, a dramatic poem that condenses all the philosophical and artistic ambition of his time.
