Sister death

Sister death

Our review

"Sister Death" is one of those horror books you feel like reading at any time, as it's familiar territory. Who hasn't read a haunted house story? Reading it reminded us of great novels like Stephen King's "The Shining."

But perhaps one of the things we liked most about this book is that we were surprised to learn it was based on a true story. A witch stalks a family's house and seems to be thoroughly enjoying herself. She will remain there for a long time; who knows if she's still there now.

The Bell Witch, as she is known in real life, inspired well-known films such as "The Blair Witch Project," increasing the myth. William Gay, master of Southern Gothic horror, draws us into an isolated farmhouse where an old legend is much more than a simple tale.

Synopsis

Writer David Binder moves his family to an old farm in Tennessee to find the inspiration he needs. He soon discovers that the house is marked by the legend of the Bell Witch, an evil spirit that, according to locals, still inhabits the property. As Binder becomes obsessed with the story, a malevolent presence begins to torment his family, especially his young daughter, blurring the terrifying line between fiction and reality.

About the author

William Gay (Tennessee, 1941-2012) is one of the most unique and powerful voices in Southern Gothic. A Vietnam veteran, he worked for years as a carpenter, writing in his free time. It wasn't until he was 58 that he published his first novel, achieving late but unanimous recognition. His prose, often compared to that of Cormac McCarthy or Faulkner, is lyrical, violent, and deeply rooted in the landscapes and people of rural Southern United States.
