Impedimenta

The girl who lives at the end of the road

The girl who lives at the end of the road

Our review

This novel is a masterclass in narrative tension. Laird Koenig crafts a suffocating book of American Gothic horror that grips you from the first page.

The story introduces us to Rynn Jacobs, a thirteen-year-old girl who lives alone at the end of the road and will do anything to protect her secret. It's a disturbing book that goes far beyond suspense: it speaks of loneliness, survival, and the darker side of the adult world (abuse, social pressure), all told with a delicate and intelligent pen.

Furthermore, the Impedimenta edition is wonderful: impeccable translation and that robust, meticulously crafted finish that characterizes the publisher.

We highly recommend you read it, not just to find out how it ends, but to enjoy how the author ties a knot in your throat. (You can read the full review at casadrojan.com).

The book behind the classic film: Before Jodie Foster brought her to life on the big screen, Laird Koenig wrote this suspense masterpiece. Halfway between a dark fairy tale and a psychological thriller, this novel is much more disturbing and profound than its adaptation.
