About the Author
Emilia Pardo Bazán (A Coruña, 1851 - Madrid, 1921) was a distinguished writer, journalist, and literary critic. She was a pioneer in introducing naturalism to Spain and a woman committed to women's rights. In 1916, she was appointed professor, becoming the first woman to hold that position in Spain. Despite her many achievements and her immense body of work, which includes novels such as The Manor of Ulloa, she was never admitted to the Royal Spanish Academy due to her gender.
