The Legend of the Thief (Illustrated) (16+ years)

Our Review

La leyenda del ladrón (The Legend of the Thief) stands out as one of his most accomplished works. The immense research and care with which he constructed both the plot and its protagonist, Sancho, a young man full of nuances and humanity, are evident.

At Casa Drojan, we consider this novel superior to Red Queen: a solid, well-written, and deeply immersive story. Set in 16th-century Seville, amidst plague, hunger, and inequality, it is an ode to survival and the human spirit.

Those looking for the more literary and less crime-focused Gómez-Jurado will find his best version here. Additionally, this edition is worthwhile as it includes some black and white illustrations and a prologue by the author himself.

Synopsis

In Seville at the end of the 16th century, Sancho, an orphaned and poor boy, survives the plague and faces a cruel world, ruled by power and injustice. His struggle to get ahead will lead him to discover the secrets, betrayals, and passions of a brilliant and ruthless city, where life always hangs by a thread.

About the Author

Juan Gómez-Jurado (Madrid, 1977) was a journalist before dedicating himself entirely to literature. He began publishing in 2006, but it was La leyenda del ladrón (The Legend of the Thief) that consolidated his name. He achieved international fame with his Red Queen saga and, later, with Todo arde (Everything Burns). Although known for his contemporary thrillers, in this work he demonstrates exceptional talent for historical narrative.
