The Time Machine (ages 14+)

The Time Machine (ages 14+)

Our Review

We started reading this book thinking it would be a pure science fiction work and found something very different: a Lovecraftian atmosphere of psychological terror and mystery. We loved the idea of imagining a completely strange future.

Imagine being able to time travel with a machine that allows you to jump across centuries. H.G. Wells' Time Traveler achieves this and ventures into the distant future: the year 802,701. The Time Machine is the foundational novel of modern science fiction and the work that immortalized the concept.

If you like fantasy, mystery, and horror, this is the perfect book. We have never found a story that combines all these genres so well in a novel that leaves you breathless.

Synopsis

In Victorian England, a scientist known as "the Time Traveler" explains to his friends that he has built a machine to move through the fourth dimension. To prove it, he embarks on a journey to the year 802,701. There he discovers that humanity has evolved into two species: the Eloi, fragile and childlike beings who live on the surface; and the Morlocks, savage and cannibalistic creatures who live underground and hunt the Eloi at night.

About the Author

H.G. Wells (London, 1866-1946) is considered one of the fathers of science fiction. He pioneered the exploration of themes such as time travel, alien invasions (The War of the Worlds), and invisibility (The Invisible Man). Unlike Verne's optimistic adventures, his novels contain strong social criticism. The Time Machine is not just a fantasy, but a powerful warning about class inequalities.
