About the Author
Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) is one of the greatest masters of the short story in universal literature and a key figure in French naturalism. A protégé of Gustave Flaubert, his style is characterized by its precision, its realism, and a profoundly pessimistic view of society. Although famous for his realistic short stories, Maupassant was also a master of the fantastic and horror tale. "La noche," like "The Horla," reflects his own obsessions and his struggle against the mental disorders that tormented him in the last years of his life, exploring with terrifying lucidity themes such as madness, paranoia, and the disintegration of the self.
