La Discreta

The annoying little girl

The annoying little girl

Our review

What does a writer do when his only reader, his most loyal one, ceases to exist? For us, La odiosita is one of the strangest and most moving declarations of love for literature we have ever read. It is the real and profoundly human story of an author, Andrés Quintero Tocancipá, and his struggle against the oblivion of his most important reader: his mother.

It is a work that questions what sense there is in writing if the person you were writing for is no longer there. The book thus becomes an attempt at resurrection through words, a spell against death, and a pact of love between an author and his eternal reader. A literary gem, honest and moving.

Synopsis

What to do when your only reader ceases to exist? There are only two possible answers: stop writing or bring the reader back. La Odiosita is the result of having chosen the second option. This woman, who from childhood more than earned her nickname, was the sole recipient of stories that the author wrote with no other pretense than to make the last years of the most faithful reader on Earth more pleasant. It is, like so many books, a naive attempt to fight against oblivion.
