Life Is a Dream (Ages 14+)

Life Is a Dream (Ages 14+)

Our review

Life is a Dream is the typical play we were all forced to read in high school, but, truly, it is one of the best works we can read. The idea of discussing the intrinsic freedom of people is always a topic of debate, and this play does not leave us indifferent.

It is a wonderful play that should not be missing from a personal library. Although it may sometimes seem complex, all the rhymes make you dance on a calm sea as Pedro Calderón de la Barca's pen explores the path of the human being.

This edition also includes activities at the end of the book! Something very interesting to consolidate the reading, whether it is mandatory or for pleasure. For all these reasons, at Librería Casa Drojan, we highly recommend reading it.

Synopsis

This philosophical drama, published in 1635, narrates the life of Prince Segismundo, who has always lived imprisoned by order of his father, King Basilio, to avoid a terrible prophecy. In the darkness of his tower, the prince reflects on who he is and where his life is heading, torn between destiny and freedom.

About the Author

Pedro Calderón de la Barca (Madrid, 1600-1681) was one of the greatest playwrights of the Spanish Golden Age. He studied at the universities of Alcalá and Salamanca and soon began to write plays for the Court, which earned him great prestige. He left us one hundred and ten comedies and eighty autos sacramentales. Although he based himself on Lope de Vega's dramatic premise, he perfected the formula by giving more weight to his protagonists and using fewer secondary characters.
