DEBOLSILLO

I dedicate my silence to you.

I dedicate my silence to you.

Our Review

This novel, in addition to being a literary utopia, represents a sincere attempt to reconcile a fractured homeland. Mario Vargas Llosa intertwines pain and joy with remarkable harmony. His proposal is as simple as it is powerful:dance. Because in shared dance, skin to skin, differences disappear. Music unites.

We often forget that life goes beyond selfishness. Life is also full of music. And, sometimes, that music appears to unite us. Thus, Vargas Llosa shows us how a country can rediscover itself in the Peruvian waltz in this, his latest novel.

The work, which masterfully intertwines fiction and essay, not only reveals the deep roots of the Peruvian waltz, but also the conflicts that marked its evolution. For those who love music and for admirers of the author, this book is an invitation to let go. However, it is recommended to accompany the reading with Chabuca Granda's voice, because it broadens the understanding of what Vargas Llosa delivers on each page.

Meanwhile, in the essayistic sections, Vargas Llosa immerses us in the richness of Peruvian music, from the origins of the waltz to the present day, narrated from the perspective of a deep witness to its cultural soul.
