Alewa's Horns and Other Dark Tales (Illustrated)

Alewa's Horns and Other Dark Tales (Illustrated)

Our review

Terror sometimes doesn't need gothic castles; the ground we walk on and the legends we whisper are enough. This collection of stories is an immersion into the folklore and nightmares of Mexico, with a powerful and original voice that has captivated us.

Los cuernos de alewá is an anthology of stories, some short and some longer, that deal with mostly supernatural themes, as well as the evil we see in family or couple relationships. It is accompanied by black and white illustrations that enhance its atmosphere.

One thing must be warned: the text has a distinct "Mexican tone" that might be difficult if you're not used to it. But we ask you to persist, because once you connect with it, the reward is brutal and thoroughly enjoyable. It's a book that reminds us that the worst monsters, sometimes, are not supernatural.
