Bohemian Lights

Bohemian Lights

Our review

A classic of Spanish theater that is always interesting to re-read, because there is too much relevant information. We believe it is enjoyed much more when you have a certain literary knowledge. Therefore, it can be very helpful to start with the reading guide and glossary included in this book.

Luces de Bohemia is one of the most important plays in Spanish literature. The author shows us reality through a distorted mirror, a technique he himself called "esperpento." It is a school essential, but also a world to discover for adults who may have overlooked it.

When you feel up to it, enjoy the reading: calmly and without rushing.

Synopsis

Max Estrella, an elderly blind poet, stars in this peculiar story that recounts his last hours of life in a decadent Madrid of 1920. Full of fascinating and reflective dialogues, the text speaks to us of the injustice, oppression, and marginalization of Spain at that time.

About the Author

Ramón del Valle-Inclán (La Coruña, 1866 - Santiago de Compostela, 1936) wrote poetry, novels, essays and, above all, theatrical works such as the well-known Luces de Bohemia. He was part of the modernism of the Generation of '98 and is considered one of the greats of 20th-century Spanish literature.
