Mission in Paris (The Adventures of Captain Alatriste 8) (14+ years)

Our review

"He was not the most honest or the most pious man, but he was a brave man..."⚔️🇫🇷

Many years have passed, but upon opening the first page of Mission in Paris, you feel like you never left. Toledo steel shines once again, this time under the gray rain of the French capital.

Arturo Pérez-Reverte gives us the most anticipated return in recent Spanish literature. It's not just an adventure novel; it's a reunion with an old friend. This time, Diego Alatriste and a young Íñigo Balboa cross the border to enter the lion's den: Cardinal Richelieu's Paris.

What has fascinated us about this installment is the change of scenery. We leave the Madrid of the Austrias to move among the intrigues of the French court, the musketeers (yes, there will be duels that will leave you breathless) and political espionage. Reverte is in top form: the setting is masterful, the language of the Golden Age flows as if it were contemporary, and the melancholy of the weary hero hits us harder than ever.

If you grew up reading Alatriste, this book is a long-overdue read. If you've never read it, it's a spectacular gateway to the legend.

Synopsis

Diego Alatriste and Íñigo Balboa receive an offer they cannot refuse: a secret mission in Paris. In a France dominated by the intrigues of Cardinal Richelieu and on the brink of war with Spain, the two protagonists must move in the shadows. Espionage, nocturnal ambushes, and duels to the death intertwine in a plot where loyalty is the most expensive currency. Alatriste will have to prove, once again, that even in a foreign land, an old soldier's honor never rusts.
