Complete Prose

Our review

Pizarnik's poetry is a cry in the night and her diaries a descent into the abyss; her prose is the labyrinth where both meet. For us, this Complete Prose is a revelation. We discover a critical Pizarnik, a fragmented narrator, always playing with language on the edge of the precipice.

In this book, you won't find conventional novels, but rather flashes of genius, reflections on childhood, madness, silence, and that incessant search for the exact word. From her texts on surrealism to cruel stories and autobiographical fragments, this work brings together for the first time all the prose of one of the most singular and powerful writers of the 20th century.

It is a book to read slowly, to get lost in its nooks and crannies and admire the fierce intelligence of a unique mind. An essential complement to her poetry and diaries.

Synopsis

This edition brings together for the first time all of Alejandra Pizarnik's prose work. The reader will find here her essays and notes on literature, her stories and tales, autobiographical texts, and unclassifiable fragments. It is a journey through her obsessions: lost childhood, otherness, language as both cage and salvation, death, and the fascination with the nocturnal.

About the author

Alejandra Pizarnik (Buenos Aires, 1936-1972) is one of the most influential voices in Hispanic American poetry. Her life was marked by an intense artistic search and a profound existential anguish. In addition to her acclaimed poetic work and her harrowing Diaries, she cultivated a fragmented and experimental prose where she explored her recurring obsessions. Her relationship with language, always at its limits, makes her a unique and radical figure.
