The Pillars of the Earth Saga

The Pillars of the Earth Saga

Our Review

If you like historical novels, this saga is a must-read. However, you should know that it's not easy at first. Many people give up on the first book because it's a bit dense, but if you manage to overcome this barrier, we assure you that you will love it.

The Pillars of the Earth shows us the passage of time through three books set in the fictional city of Kingsbridge, in different eras. A world full of lies, power, disease, survival, but also love, art, and change. If you like historical fiction and suspense, we recommend you give it a chance.

Our advice to enjoy it to the fullest is persistence and patience. There are many characters and the plots are not simple, but once you get into it, you won't want to stop reading.

The Books

This saga consists of 3 novels that trace the history of the city of Kingsbridge:

  • The Pillars of the Earth: 12th century. Amidst religious and political conflicts, the plot narrates the fascinating construction of a cathedral that will transform a small village into a city.

  • World Without End: 14th century. Two hundred years later, Kingsbridge is a prosperous city facing a new enemy: the Black Death. Medicine and the struggle for survival are key.

  • A Column of Fire: 16th century. With the descendants of the previous novels, the story focuses on the struggle for the English throne between Elizabeth Tudor and Mary Stuart and the wars of religion in Europe.

About the Author

Ken Follett (Wales, 1949) studied philosophy and journalism. He started by writing thrillers and spy novels. At 40, he changed his literary style and wrote The Pillars of the Earth.
