Brave New World

Brave New World

Our Review

A gripping novel of a world that is, perhaps, not so good. Multiplication of ova? Of course! Living without thinking? If you don't want to die, it's better that way. In this book, we find ourselves with passionate literature laden with social criticism. We were surprised not only by the use of drugs to control collective thought, but also by the fact that 5-year-old children were already having sexual relations.

Aldous Huxley envisions a future with machines that bring children into the world and the use of a substance, Soma, to control the mind. His vision has not gone unnoticed, as many of his thoughts are still debated today. Brave New World is a utopia for some and a dystopia for others. Certainly, Huxley was a great visionary.

Synopsis

The novel is set in the 26th century. Students visit the Conditioning Centre in London, where scientists teach them the process of artificial creation and hypnopaedic education. This is how the Alphas (the elite) and the Epsilons (the working base) are created. In this society, love is forbidden, and emotions are controlled with Soma. However, Bernard and Lenina dare to question it. At what cost?
