Our review

It is a book with enormous sensitivity. The descriptions of the place and the emotions are truly an artistic creation. It masterfully transported us to the darkness of the post-war years in Barcelona. The fact that it is written in the first person makes you empathize much more with the protagonist.

Nada is a classic that shows the decadence of the Spanish Civil War through a female voice. This novel won the Premio Nadal in 1944 and it is said that its author never surpassed this moving masterpiece. It can be enjoyed equally by young and old. Second readings were always good.

If you want to discover this classic, we recommend this new hardcover edition with a prologue by the writer Elvira Lindo.

Synopsis

Andrea, a young orphan, moves into her family's house in Barcelona to study at the University. The only thing she remembers is the cheerful atmosphere of her childhood, but she finds something very different. The war has not only left its mark on the city, which now feels sad and dark, but also on the family, where there are strong tensions. The only thing that saves her is her friend Ena, who will be her oxygen.
