Our Review

There are many kinds of monsters, but few are as terrifying as those that were once our best friends. Cujo is one of Stephen King's cruelest and most direct novels. There are no ghosts or demons, just the terrifying transformation of a good and loyal St. Bernard into a rabid beast.

Can man's best friend become his worst nightmare? In the quiet town of Castle Rock, a St. Bernard named Cujo, known for his docile nature, is bitten by a bat. What follows is a relentless descent into the madness of rabies. King uses a terrifyingly simple premise to construct one of his most claustrophobic and memorable novels.

What we like most is its suffocating realism; the tension of a mother and child trapped in a car is almost unbearable. A book that will leave you breathless.

Synopsis

Cujo was the friendliest St. Bernard in Castle Rock, until a bat bite infected him with rabies. As the dog transforms into a killing machine, Donna Trenton and her young son Tad are trapped in their broken-down car under an unforgiving sun on an isolated farm. With the monstrous Cujo lurking outside, a desperate fight for survival begins.

About the Author

Stephen King (Portland, 1947) is one of the most renowned writers in the world of horror and suspense. Carrie (1974) was the work that catapulted him to stardom, followed by classics such as The Shining (1977), It (1986), and Misery (1987). Interestingly, King himself has stated that he barely remembers writing Cujo due to his severe alcohol addiction at the time, which adds an extra layer of darkness to the novel's story.
