The printer of Venice

The printer of Venice

Our review

If you like classic literature, The Printer of Venice might be a good book for you. Although it appears to be easy to read, it has a background that is difficult to interpret if you are not a seasoned reader. One of the most interesting things is the chaos it plunges you into, transporting you to Venetian society of the time, where the book itself was not as important as good commerce.

It is a purely literary book that talks about Aldo Manuzio, the editor and printer who invented the paperback book. Javier Azpeitia destroys the motto "the past was always better" by showing how erudition, chaos, and sexuality spread throughout Venice.

As you will see, it is not a typical novel. It requires great effort from the reader to understand the author's literary allusions. He uses irony, debate, love, and history.

Synopsis

Aldo Manuzio arrives in Venice with the dream of printing books never before seen. It is the dream of an idealistic book lover who will be slapped by reality from the moment he steps into a Venetian gondola.
