The Secondhand Storyteller

The Secondhand Storyteller

Our review

If you know this author from Sophie's World, then you still have a lot to learn. Although it is his best-known work, he has much more interesting books for adult readers, as is the case here. The Storyteller struck us as a very rich book for reflecting on imagination. Almost like a premonition of AI, because imagine being able to write down ideas that someone else has already given you without having to think?

You will enter a world where imagination is the engine of existence with this original, poetic, and deeply philosophical novel by Jostein Gaarder. It is not just a book about the art of storytelling, but a captivating reflection on reality, fiction, and the transformative power of stories.

A reading that will challenge your perception and remind you of the immense power of fiction.

Synopsis

Petter sells the stories he invents so that other authors can write them, though he soon begins to weave a web that will get out of hand. This singular premise leads Jostein Gaarder to explore the blurred lines between reality and fiction, the value of imagination, and how stories shape us and allow us to understand the world.
