Fair

Fair

Our review

A book that makes an impact with its brutal honesty. Those of us born in a village — and even more so, in La Mancha — will recognize ourselves in many of the feelings that Ana Iris Simón narrates with such lucidity. It is a profoundly traditional story, a faithful portrayal of peasant and working-class life, full of vindication and nostalgia.

Ana Iris Simón's biography, fresh and unpretentious, has touched the hearts of thousands of readers. With an honest perspective, she narrates her life among fairs and families from La Mancha, inviting us to reflect on the contrast between yesterday and today. It is an unflinching social portrait, written with courageous and disarming sincerity.

Like so many young people born in the 90s, the author embarked on a journey to the capital in search of a better future, leaving behind her roots and contributing, unintentionally, to the painful phenomenon of depopulated Spain.

Synopsis

Ana Iris Simón narrates from within what life was like at the fair, her family ties, the traditions of the village of La Mancha, and its most authentic expressions. She also describes the profound shift of leaving everything behind to move to the capital, a change that initially sparked shame about her origins and, over time, transformed into a deep-seated nostalgia.
