Children of Dune (Dune Saga 3) (Ages 14+)

Children of Dune (Dune Saga 3) (Ages 14+)

Our review

If the first book, Dune, is the birth of a myth, and the second, Dune Messiah, its deconstruction, Children of Dune is the necessary evolution towards something much grander. Nine years after Paul's disappearance into the desert, the Empire is in the hands of an unstable regency, while his children, Leto II and Ghanima, grapple with a genetic heritage that is both a gift and a curse: the memory of all their ancestors.

It's a novel on a very different scale. Herbert offers us here some of the most astonishing transformations in fantasy literature. The struggle is no longer just for control of the spice, but for the biological future of humanity. Prepare to see the desert begin to die under the advance of water and how ancient myths twist into new forms of power.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Although today we know Dune as an extensive saga, Frank Herbert originally conceived the story as a closed trilogy (concluding with Children of Dune). However, the universe of Arrakis was so vast that the author returned years later to expand it. Currently, the main series written by Herbert consists of 6 volumes (ending with Chapterhouse: Dune), although the first three function as a complete and perfect story arc on their own.

Synopsis

The Atreides Empire is tottering. As the ecological transformation of Arrakis threatens to extinguish the sandworms and, with them, spice production, twins Leto and Ghanima must survive the plots of their aunt Alia and the intrigues of the exiled House Corrino. In the desert, a mysterious Preacher questions the official religion, while Leto II discovers that to save humanity, he must embark on a physical and spiritual path from which there is no return.
