Mary Poppins and Mary Poppins Returns (illustrated) (ages 6+)

Mary Poppins and Mary Poppins Returns (illustrated) (ages 6+)

Our review

Who doesn't know Disney's famous Mary Poppins? We bring you the original books written by P. L. Travers between 1934 and 1935, which to our surprise have little to do with the character shown on screen.

The Mary Poppins of the books is richer in nuances, as well as taking us to incredible magical worlds. Each chapter is an adventure and you never know what awaits you.

We believe it is a wonderful book to share as a family. Every night you can read a chapter together, which is almost like an independent story. Ideal for relaxing from stress and letting your imagination fly before going to sleep.

This edition includes the first two books in the series: Mary Poppins and Mary Poppins Comes Back, and the original illustrations by Mary Shepard from the 1st edition!

Synopsis

When the Banks family of 17 Cherry Tree Lane needs help, a very peculiar nanny flies in on the East wind. She is no ordinary nanny: she is Mary Poppins, a woman as stern as she is magical, who can slide up banisters and take children for tea on the ceiling.

This volume gathers her first two and most famous adventures, "Mary Poppins" and "Mary Poppins Comes Back", where Jane, Michael and the Banks twins will discover that with their new nanny the impossible is always possible, whether jumping into a painting or visiting a circus in the clouds. But they must be careful: she is as mysterious as the wind that brings her and that, one day, will take her away.

About the author

P. L. Travers (Australia, 1899 - London, 1996), born Helen Lyndon Goff, was a journalist and actress before becoming one of the most celebrated authors of children's literature. Deeply interested in mysticism and mythology, she created a Mary Poppins much more mysterious, stern and complex than the one we know from the cinema. In fact, Travers had a very conflictive relationship with Walt Disney during the adaptation of her work, as she considered that the film had eliminated the darkness and depth of her character.
