Pippi Longstocking (Original illustrations) (Ages 7+)

Our review

Forget for a moment about princesses waiting in fairytale castles and well-behaved children. Here comes the red-headed hurricane that revolutionized children's literature!

"Pippi Longstocking" is the instruction manual for feeling free. She lives alone, sleeps with her feet on the pillow, has a horse on the porch, and is the strongest girl in the world. Astrid Lindgren didn't focus on portraying the story of a poor orphan girl; she preferred to write an ode to happy anarchy, generosity, and boundless imagination.

This edition from Kókinos, with its unmistakable red cover, is the perfect gateway to Villa Villekulla. Reading Pippi today is still a necessary act of rebellion: it teaches us that it's okay to be different, that authority sometimes makes mistakes, and that, with the right attitude, you can lift a horse with one hand.

Synopsis

Pippi Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Efraim's Daughter Longstocking (Pippi to her friends) is nine years old and lives completely alone in Villa Villekulla. Well, not alone: she lives with a monkey named Mr. Nilsson and a horse. She doesn't have parents to tell her when to go to bed or forbid her from eating sweets. Alongside her neighbors, Tommy and Annika, Pippi will show that life can be a constant adventure if you dare to break the rules. A modern classic full of humor, tenderness, and strength.

About the author

Astrid Lindgren (Sweden, 1907-2002) created Pippi to entertain her sick daughter and ended up revolutionizing global children's literature. A defender of children's and animal rights, her work broke with the moralism of the time to truly stand on the side of childhood.
