Our review

Pierre Lemaitre doesn't write thrillers; he builds traps. And Alex is, arguably, the most perfect and cruel of them all. Reading this book is a physical experience: you feel disoriented, paranoid, and completely manipulated, just like its protagonist. We chose it because it is a work of narrative engineering, a diabolical puzzle that plays with the reader in a way few authors dare to. It is one of those novels that, upon finishing, compels you to go back to the beginning to admire the author's genius.

This is a masterpiece of suspense and psychological cruelty. Lemaitre constructs a perfect clockwork mechanism to drag you into a spiral of terror. Imagine your own mind betraying you. One day you wake up next to a corpse and all the evidence points to you, but you remember nothing.

It's a suffocating journey into madness, or what appears to be. But, what if you're not mad? What if someone, with infinite intelligence, were pulling the strings of your life to destroy you? This is not a conventional thriller. It is a trap for the reader, an experience that will make you doubt everything. If you are looking for a novel that plays with your mind to unimaginable limits, you have just found it.
