Chernobyl Prayer (Pocket Edition)

Chernobyl Prayer (Pocket Edition)

Our review

When the Chernobyl nuclear disaster occurred, the world was filled with figures, technical reports, and political propaganda. But the most important thing was missing: the voice of the people.

Svetlana Alexievich dedicated herself to listening. In this book, you won't find cold data, but rather the real testimonies of those who lived through it: the widows of the liquidators, the deceived soldiers, the children, the elderly who refused to abandon their poisoned lands...

It is a tough and heartbreaking read, we won't lie to you, but it is written with such immense beauty and humanity that you won't be able to put it down. If you truly want to understand what Chernobyl meant, beyond the TV series and documentaries, this book needs to be in your life.

Synopsis

On April 26, 1986, the worst nuclear catastrophe in history occurred at the Chernobyl power plant. Soviet authorities tried to hide the magnitude of the tragedy, but radiation knows no borders.

Through intertwined monologues, the author constructs a brutal and honest "chronicle of the future." It is the choral account of a population sent to the slaughterhouse, of anonymous heroes who sacrificed their lives to save Europe, and of the victims who had to learn to survive in an invisibly lethal world.

About the author

She is the author of other essential works such as The Unwomanly Face of War and Zinky Boys.
